Overview :
Eternal Ink – The Divided Symbolism” investigates the decline of Khoda tattoos among Santhali women of Jharkhand, India. Through visual documentation, interviews, and storytelling, it highlights the cultural and gendered significance of this indigenous tradition while advocating for its recognition, appreciation , and potential revitalization.

My Role :
I conducted field research across four Santhal villages, speaking with around 25–40 women and 1 local khudini (tattoo artists), while documenting over 100 distinct tattoo motifs. These insights were translated into a visual publication and awareness campaign. I designed the project identity, publication layout, and visual system inspired by the motifs and stories shared by the community.

Outcome:
The project culminated in a publication, documentary, website and exhibition concept that celebrate women’s voices and cultural resilience through design. It was later showcased in an academic design exhibition for its contribution to cultural preservation. Eternal Ink celebrates women’s voices and cultural resilience, bridging cultural representation and communication design to keep the art of khoda alive.
